Hey Steve, you did it. Suggestion would be to allow an optional codeword. Since you probably generate a random database key, if we can create our own replacement codeword, it would look better in the links. I*t would still be unique.

Hi Steve. I've started entering mine as only 'fromtel.com' without any www.http// prefixes and they do link to your site when clicked-have I done this correctly and is the purpose to enhance links from tels to improve SEO ? Or have I misinterpreted your instructions?
Thanks for your help.

nice service steve.

for the folks are the question, why short url vs seo enhanced url?
short urls and enhanced urls for seo purposes are two distinct things (actually quite the opposite).
we've opted to go with enhanced urls for seo purposes vs short urls.

you need to figure out what your end goal is, a nice short url to display on your .tel or a more descriptive url with seo features. I'm hoping my links get shared and passed around so the more descriptive the better. again... make sure choice depending on what your end goal is.

you also need to be clear what short url linking does, in summary what it does is everytime someone clicks that link they actual go to the shorturl provider website, do a lookup/translation then go to their final destination. raises obvious questions about the service provided by the url translator (will their website always be up, etc). tinyurl have been in this game for a while and I've heard only good things about them (even telnic use them!). am sure steve will also provider a stellar service (steve - you can post me my commision ;))

Thank you for the quick feedback everyone.

The URL forwarding service will definitely have keyword selection and other goodies, right now it uses a random code so there is equal access for everyone.

In this case the idea is to provide short URLs for now, as opposed to SEO friendly links. The short URLs are nice because they save on the character count and you can use affiliiate codes, etc. The URL shortener will not provide you with any extra SEO benefits from the link, but it will make your web links on the card look cleaner. There will be SEO friendly URLs coming, but I want to make sure people don't load up on prime keywords while we are still ironing out the wrinkles.

I will put up more details on the site about how the short URL transaction works to help clarify functionality.

More features to come :D
